Prof. Josemaría Malgosa-Sanahuja, Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Spain is giving a talk on 'Network innovation using SDN'

Where and when? UCD CSI Boardroom, 22nd May 2014, 11 AM.

Abstract: Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has recently attracted the attention of research groups and telco companies as a new paradigm of programmable networks. With SDN it is possible to dramatically simplify network management and enable innovation through network programmability. This talk provides a historic perspective of programmable networks from early ideas to recent developments. Then, the SDN architecture and the OpenFlow standard will be presented. However, developing high level management services directly with OpenFlow can be very difficult. Therefore, other existing alternatives to facilitate high level network programming will be also exposed. Finally, the talk will point out some challenges and opportunities related to SDN.
