Welcome to Elvis Liu, new research fellow in the group.
Dr. Elvis Liu is on a Research Fellowship co-awarded by Irish Research Council and IBM Research, Ireland. His current researches are focused on simulation technologies for exascale high performance computing systems.
Previously, he was a Lecturer at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), where he taught courses in online game development. Prior to that, he was a Research Associate and a Visiting Lecturer at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University was within a government-funded project “Mini-scale Multiplayer Online Game Development Platform” and later its commercialized successor - the Lucid Platform. These projects aimed to develop a middleware to support online game development. During the time he led the system development team, which was responsible for the backend services such as data communications, data persistence, synchronization and security for the online game middleware. In September 2006, the Lucid Platform project received the Silver Award from the China Association of Inventions on the 16th China National Invention Exhibition.
He was awarded a Full Overseas Ph.D. Scholarship and obtained a Ph.D. degree from the University of Birmingham. His Ph.D. thesis is focused on interest management for distributed virtual environments and military simulation systems, such as the U.S. Department of Defense's High-Level Architecture. This research proposes new interest matching algorithms based on parallel processing, which are expected to be more scalable than the existing ones and maintain the same precision of data-filtering. He received his first degree from the University of Hong Kong.
